Abbey Niezgoda is an anchor/reporter for WERS 88.9 FM, providing news updates every half hour during the morning and afternoon commutes. She also produces long form pieces for You Are Here, a weekly public affairs show on WERS. She has been a part of the WERS News Team for four years serving as an anchor, producer and reporter.
From city budget problems to the Boston Marathon, Abbey produces hyperlocal content on a deadline. Her work as a reporter/photographer has been featured on the homepage of CNN.com, receiving over 200,000 views.
Abbey has won several New England Associated Press awards for her work on Emerson's student run news station, EIV News, including breaking news and investigative reporting. Her investigative report shed new light on the controversial relationship between Boston firefighters and the current mayor. Her contributions to EIV have led the station to win the EMMY for Best College Newscast two years in a row.
Abbey has completed internships at WBZ-TV and WHDH-TV in Boston, and was selected as a college fellow at the Poynter Institute for Media Studies. She was also the only college journalist invited to attend the NPPA Advanced Storytelling Workshop.
Originally from Houston, Texas, Abbey is currently a senior at Emerson College, graduating in May 2011. When she doesn't have a tripod on her back, she has her iPhone in her pocket, eager to take on new roles as a journalist.
